 Iraqi government to carry out reforms for economic renaissance

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Finance, Taif Sami, confirmed on Sunday that the government is determined to proceed with a package of reforms to provide the requirements of a balanced economic renaissance in Iraq, according to a statement issued by the Finance Ministry.

The minister’s statement took place during her meeting with the director of the World Bank Office in Iraq, Richard Abdulnour, and the World Bank Country Director for the Middle East Department, Jean-Christophe Carret.

The meeting addressed ways to enhance joint cooperation between Iraq and the World Bank, and emphasized the ongoing coordination to support sustainable development in finance, economic and investment sectors, in line with the Iraqi government’s vision aiming to benefit from all forms of international support required to support development projects in Iraq.

Sami valued the role played by the World Bank in supporting the reforms carried out by the Iraqi government.

Sami stressed that the government is determined to proceed with a package of fundamental reforms to provide a balanced economic renaissance in Iraq, by diversifying the sources of income, engaging the private sector in all economic activities and opening new horizons of promising development opportunities in Iraq.

Representatives of the World Bank expressed their support for the efforts of the Iraqi government in terms of the reforms it carries out despite the global economic challenges.

The World Bank officials also praised the government’s approach to achieve regional economic integration in partnership with the rest of the countries in the region.
