 Iraqi President reviews NATO role in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, reviewed the role and missions of the NATO in Iraq during his meeting with the Commander of Allied Joint Force Command in Naples, Admiral Stuart Munsch, and Commander of the NATO Mission in Iraq (NMI), Lieutenant General Giovanni Iannucci, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency.

The statement revealed that the meeting addressed the missions of the NMI and its role in providing advice and training to the Iraqi security forces to raise their military capabilities.

Rashid confirmed that Iraq seeks to develop its military and intelligence capabilities in cooperation with friends, to strengthen security and stability in Iraqi cities, and to enhance its efforts in combating terrorism, the statement elaborated.

Rashid talked about his participation in the World Economic Forum and the discussions about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, stressing that wars and conflicts cause material, economic and military losses in addition to casualties among innocent civilians, the statement mentioned.

Rashid also talked about his visits to Egypt and Algeria, and the desire of the Arab countries to cooperate in strengthening the stability of Iraq, as it will contribute to the stability of the entire Middle East region, due to Iraq’s strategic importance and influence over the Arab region.

The Iraqi President spoke about the security situation on the Iraqi borders, particularly on the borders with Turkey.

Rashid praised the efforts of the NMI that support Iraq in its war against terrorism, and its role in building the military capabilities of the Iraqi forces as well as its role in providing security advices.

Rashid expressed his hope for continued cooperation in a way that achieves the desired goals in strengthening the country’s security.

Munsch expressed the desire of the Allied Joint Force to enhance the relations with Iraq in the coming period, stressing the importance of the joint work and the coordination to combat terrorism, and the need to communicate with the Iraqi authorities to have successful missions in Iraq.
