 Iraq’s coach Casas donates Gulf Cup award to stampede and bus accident victims

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Spanish coach of the Iraqi national team, Jesus Casas, opted to forego the incentive offered by the Iraq Football Federation (IFA).

According to sports journalist and presenter, Maher Hassan, Casas chose to donate his $8,000 incentive and a new automobile to the families of those killed in the stampede and traffic disaster during the Gulf Cup event.

The IFA awarded the national team players and coaches for winning the 25th Gulf Cup that took place in Basra, Iraq.

Before the 25th Gulf Cup final game on Thursday in the Iraqi city of Basra, there was a stampede that resulted in one death and 60 injuries.

Furthermore, six people were killed and 30 were injured in an accident involving a bus carrying Iraqi football supporters to Basra for the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup. The incident took place prior to the semifinal game between Iraq and Qatar.

According to reports, a bus and a large truck collided in the Dhi Qar Governorate in northern Basra.
