Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq Football Association (IFA) announced on Wednesday it reached an agreement with the Spanish coach, Jesus Casas, to lead the training of the Iraqi national football team for the next period.

The Secretary of the IFA, Mohammed Farhan, told media reporters that the IFA reached an agreement with the Spanish coach, Jesus Casas, to coach the national team for the next period, and he is expected to arrive in the capital, Baghdad, in the coming days to officially sign a contract.

Farhan explained that the coaching staff of the national team will include five assistants chosen by Casas, a goalkeeper coach, a fitness coach, a technical analyst and two assistants, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The Secretary of the IFA did not indicate any financial or legal details related to the agreement. He also did not specify the date Casas will take over his mission with the Iraqi team which will play four friendly matches during November.

Casas, 49, worked as an assistant coach for the Spanish national team, under coach Luis Enrique, between 2018 and 2022, and as an administrative director for the youth teams.

The Iraqi national team is expected to play four friendly matches, two of which will be against Mexico and Ecuador on November 9 and November 12 in the Spanish city of Girona, before hosting the Costa Rican team in the city of Basra on November 17 and the Venezuelan team on November 21 either in Basra or the capital, Baghdad.
