Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, said that the Secretary-General of the United Nations decided to create a new position in Iraq, which is the advisor on climate change and security, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

The announcement of the new decision took place after the Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, received DiCarlo, in Baghdad, in the presence of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency.

DiCarlo stressed that the United Nations is keen to help Iraq face the challenges of climate change, and emphasized the United Nations readiness to cooperate to reduce the risks of drought and water scarcity.

The meeting addressed the relations between Iraq and the United Nations through its mission and agencies operating in Iraq with their various specializations.

The President and the UN officials stressed the importance of strengthening the cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations in a manner that enhances the achievement of the goals planned for.

Rashid also talked about the outcomes of his participation in the Arab summit held in Algeria as well as the Climate Change Conference (COP 27) held in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
