 UN expresses confidence in Iraqi PM to combat corruption

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, expressed on Monday her confidence in the ability of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, to combat corruption and provide services, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Plasschaert statement took place during her meeting with the Governor of Karbala, Jassim Al-Khattabi, INA reported.

“We do not question the capabilities of the Iraqi Prime Minister to work, fight corruption and provide services,” Plasschaert said.

Al-Khattabi mentioned that during his meeting with the UN official in Karbala, they discussed mechanisms for cooperation and coordination between the United Nations and the governorate in several areas, INA explained.

Al-Khattabi clarified that the meeting also addressed the issue of governorate council elections and the positive aspects of holding these elections.

Al-Khattabi added that Karbala supports the democratic project, and the mechanisms of the central government in providing services, reconstruction and development in the governorate.
