Blatter announces his resignation from the presidency of FIFA

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad- Joseph Blatter announced  on Tuesday his resignation from the presidency of the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA), four days after his re-election for a fifth term, calling for a general assembly to elect a new president in the near future.

Blatter said at a press conference in Zurich, “I announced my resignation from the presidency of FIFA.”

Blatter called for “an extraordinary general assembly to FIFA to elect a new president in the near future,” adding that “FIFA need a comprehensive restructuring to meet the challenges that do not stop.”

It is noteworthy that Blatter won on Friday (29 May 2015) the chairmanship of FIFA, after the withdrawal of the only rival, Jordanian Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of the second round elections.
