URGENT: Britain sends heavy weapons, ammunition to Kurdish Peshmerga forces

(IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday, The British government announced that it will provide large quantities of heavy weapons and ammunition for the Kurdish Peshmerga forces for the purpose of confronting the terrorist gangs of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The British Defense Secretary, Michael Fallon said in a press statement that “the value of those weapons is up to 6.1 million pounds augmented by about half a million pounds, the value of the shipping to Iraq.”

Fallon added that “The shipment of weapons and ammunition will reach Iraq on Wednesday,” stressing that “the Kurdish forces suffer from a significant lack of weapons compared to the fighters of the Islamic State.”

Fallon indicated that his country is willing to help the Iraqi government and the Kurdish forces to defend themselves and their fellow citizens to stop the advance of ISIS towards other areas, in addition to supporting the international relief efforts to alleviate the suffering of Iraqis who have been targeted by terrorists.
