Iran plans to export 1000 MW of electricity to Iraq next summer

(IraqiNews.com) On Saturday, Iran announced its intention to export 1000 MW of electricity to Iraq during next summer, and decided to extend the contract for the electricity supply to Iraq until the end of 2015.

Minister of Energy Assistant, Huhang Vlahtian said in his statements reported by Iranian news agency ‘Faris’, “Under the final agreement between Iran and Iraq, it was decided to extend the contract for the electricity supply to Iraq until the end of 2015,” noting that the Iranian Energy Ministry and the Iraqi side decided to extend the contract from early 2015 until the end of the year, according to the conditions.

Vlahtian explained,“Under the agreement, between 1,000 to 1,500 Mega Watts of electricity will be exported to Iraq,” pointing to the low consumption during wintertime, and that only 200 MW imported during the last few days.

He also pointed out that Iraq consumes a large amount of electrical energy during the summer, adding that it will be importing an average of 1000 MW.
