Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The organizing committee of the 25th Gulf Cup football championship announced on Thursday a modification in the timing of the opening ceremony of the tournament, which will be held between January 6 and January 19.

The organizing committee of the Arab Gulf Cup championship made a modification in the opening time of the tournament, so that it will be at 5:45 p.m., the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) mentioned via Twitter.

The opening match between Iraq and Oman will start at 7 p.m., and the next match between Saudi Arabia and Yemen will be at 9:45 p.m., on Friday, January 6, 2023, the AGCFF statement added.

Before the amendment, the opening match between Iraq and Oman was scheduled to start at 6:45 p.m. local time in Basra International Stadium, and the match between Saudi Arabia and Yemen was scheduled at 9:30 p.m.

The Iraqi national team won the championship title in 1979 and 1984, and is seeking to win the title for the third time.

For years, Iraq has been seeking to host the tournament that brings together the teams of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Oman, Bahrain and Yemen.

The 25th version of the Arabian Gulf Cup is scheduled to be held in Basra in the Al-Menaa Olympic Stadium and Basra International Stadium.

The tournament will be held with the participation of eight teams divided into two groups. The first group includes Iraq, Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia, while the second group includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE.
