 CBI seeks cooperation with Britain

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), Mustafa Ghaleb, confirmed on Tuesday the aspiration of the banking sector in Iraq to cooperate with Britain in three areas, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The CBI’s press office mentioned in a statement that Ghaleb received on Tuesday the British Ambassador to Iraq, Mark Bryson-Richardson, where he stressed the need to strengthen the banking and economic relations between the two countries.

Ghaleb confirmed that the CBI played a major role over the past years in revitalizing the Iraqi economy, the statement elaborated.

Ghaleb also affirmed that the banking sector in Iraq is looking forward to strengthening the cooperation between Iraq and Britain in fields related to banking systems, combating money laundering and the finance of terrorism.

The British ambassador commended the initiatives of the CBI and its role in providing renewable energy loans, which reinforces Iraq’s commitment to the climate change agreement.
