China’s Sungrow is leading Iraq’s green energy development

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Sungrow, a Chinese renewable energy manufacturer, is pushing the growth of Iraq’s green energy industry, taking a cautious step toward fulfilling the country’s untapped solar landscape potential.

Acting Chief Operating Officer of Sungrow MENA region Lei Wu stressed the need of implementing cutting-edge technology to address Iraq’s chronic energy deficit and eventually improve the supply of dependable and superior electricity for its citizens.

Iraq is becoming a booming solar sector as the country’s need for solar electricity rises. But there are issues with Iraq’s undeveloped electrical system that need for greater standards for both goods and technology.

Operating under Iraq’s fragile infrastructure, solar projects have the potential to aggravate an already unstable situation by impacting the grid’s overall stability, whether they are connected directly to the grid or used as backup power sources during blackouts.

Thus, utility-scale power plants, commercial and industrial (C&I) installations, and residential solutions are Wu’s three main recommendations for PV expansion in Iraq.

“Tailoring our products and solutions to diverse requirements is crucial,” said Wu. “For example, when a project requires connection to a weak grid, our focus is on providing robust grid support. This involves a seamless integration of PV and energy storage to enhance the stability and optimize consumption ratios. Alternatively, in off-grid scenarios or as a backup power source, our goal is to ensure seamless collaboration between PV and energy storage for maximum efficiency.”

“Previously, we participated in the construction of an 800 MW solar project for the Qatar World Cup. At that time, the integration of large-scale green energy into the Qatar power grid served as a test, and with the backing of advanced Chinese technology, the project proceeded smoothly. This success has bolstered our confidence in venturing into the Iraqi market,” added Wu.

In order to provide localized services, Sungrow has branches and sales networks around the MENA area as part of its worldwide expansion plan. This strengthens relationships with regional clients and contributes to the growth of the Iraqi market.
