Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, issued a decision on Thursday to strike a deal with the Defense Industries Commission (DIC) to purchase drones.

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior mentioned in a statement that Al-Shammari chaired a meeting of the armament committee during which a few subjects were covered, such as the improvement of Iraqi security forces’ combat preparedness and capabilities., the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

Al-Shammari directed during the meeting to purchase drones from the DIC to support the ministry’s security operations, stressing that the DIC can manufacture different types of vehicles, equipment, and weapons.

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior has provided many of its departments with advanced vehicles and will provide them with advanced weapons.

Al-Shammari highlighted the need to continue securing Iraq’s borders by providing modern equipment, weapons, and night-vision binoculars.

The President of the DIC, Mohammed Al-Daraji, mentioned in September 2022 that the commission aims to localize the military industry and preserve the country’s economic and national security by manufacturing weapons and ammunition in Iraq.

Al-Daraji explained at that time that the next step of the DIC is to start manufacturing the Mesopotamia rifle and light ammunition used by security and armed forces by the end of 2022.
