Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Erbil Civil Defense announced on Sunday that firefighters were battling to contain a fire that erupted in the Qaysari Bazaar in the capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Erbil.

Numerous people crowded close to Qaysari Bazaar as the governor and mayor of Erbil arrived on the scene.

Residents of the area were advised by local authorities to stay away from the fire and assist the firefighters in putting out the fire as quickly as they could.

Initial reports from emergency teams indicated that more than 370 shops out of 4,000 in Qaysari Bazaar have been completely destroyed by the fire.

Although the fire was extinguished on Sunday night, smoke continued to rise from the scene.

After the fire was extinguished, an investigation committee was formed to figure out the cause of the incident.

Last September, at least 100 people were killed and 150 others were injured after a fire broke out at a wedding celebration in the Al-Hamdaniya district in the northern Iraqi governorate of Nineveh.
