Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Officials at Erbil International Airport said Tuesday night that flights will be suspended because of fog.

Sources told Shafaq News that air traffic will return to normal after the weather improves.

The administration of the airport notified travelers to and from Erbil that airport flights are continuing, but according to the weather forecasting department, visibility will be reduced after 2:00 am due to fog, according to Shafaq News.

The airport’s administration elaborated that flights will be suspended temporarily due to the weather conditions and will be resumed after the weather improves.

Earlier, weather forecasts in the Kurdistan region of Iraq indicated that a wave of moderate fog would rise after midnight until early morning in the areas of western Erbil, Duhok, parts of Kirkuk governorate, Sulaymaniyah, and other surrounding areas.

Flights at Erbil International Airport were suspended last week after a drone was shot down near the airport.

According to a statement released by the spokesperson for Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani, criminal groups launched an attack near Erbil International Airport on Monday, December 25, at 3:50 p.m.

The spokesperson of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Yahya Rasoul, said that the accident caused some injuries and disrupted the flight schedule, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

Rasoul also confirmed that the Iraqi security forces will reach the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
