Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Approximately 500,000 Iraqis flooded the streets of Baghdad in an astonishing show of solidarity in favor of Palestinians, particularly those in Gaza. This large protest, which took place in Tahrir Square,  highlights the Iraqi people’s strong empathy and common concern for their Palestinian counterparts, showcasing the two countries’ continuing bonds.

The Iraqis made it apparent that they are deeply affected by the Palestinian people’s hardships despite their distance from Palestine. Young and old, from all walks of life, the crowd of protesters waved Palestinian flags.

This large rally was sparked by the recent escalation of war and bloodshed in Gaza, which prompted Iraqis to express their support and denounce the continuous suffering of the Palestinians. The Iraqis have been deeply moved by images of destruction and displacement, which have served as a reminder of their own difficulties in the past and the value of coming together in times of need.

Historical linkages, cultural affinities, and a common sense of injustice can be used to explain why there has been such an enormous display of sympathy. Like many other nations in the Middle East, Iraq has a long history of supporting the Palestinian cause.

Additionally reflecting the opinions of its citizens, the Iraqi government has taken a position on the issue. The necessity for international engagement to address the conflict’s underlying causes and uphold the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people has been underlined in official pronouncements.
