 High-ranking Iraqi delegation to visit Italy

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, revealed on Tuesday that a high-ranking Iraqi delegation will visit Italy, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office mentioned that Al-Sudani received the Italian Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, his accompanying delegation, the Iraqi Minister of Defense, Thabet Al-Abbasi, and senior military officers.  

The meeting addressed the relations between the two countries and ways to enhance cooperation in security fields, the statement illustrated.

Al-Sudani praised Italy’s role in combating terrorism and eliminating the terrorists of ISIS within the international coalition, and its role in training the Iraqi security forces within the NATO Mission in Iraq (NMI), the statement clarified.

The Iraqi Prime Minister indicated that the relationship between Iraq and Italy is distinct, stressing Iraq’s desire to cooperate with Italy in a way that serves the common interests and the security of the region and the world, the statement elaborated.

Al-Sudani pointed out that Iraq and Italy have great and promising opportunities for cooperation in several fields, benefiting from the experience of Italian companies in fields of health, education and industry, and the optimal use of water, the statement revealed.

Crosetto confirmed that Italy is looking forward to receiving the Iraqi delegation to discuss several issues, which will contribute to the development of relations between the two countries, particularly as Italy gives importance to Iraq’s pivotal role in managing regional and international issues related to peace.

The Italian Defense Minister added that security cooperation with Iraq will continue in the field of training the Iraqi security forces.
