Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Chargé d’Affaires to Poland, Moqdad Ayoub Al-Mandalawi, called on the President of the Polish Civil Aviation Authority to operate airlines between Baghdad and Warsaw, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

Al-Mandalawi mentioned in a statement that he met with the President of the Polish Civil Aviation Authority, Piotr Samson, on Monday in the Polish capital, Warsaw, where they discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the Iraqi and Polish civil aviation authorities.

The meeting between both officials addressed ways to overcome obstacles preventing the operation of airlines between the two countries in addition to the amendments to the air transport agreement between Iraq and Poland signed in 1961.

The Iraqi official in Poland stressed the importance of Iraq’s strategic location, which represents a gateway to the Middle East, in addition to the government’s plans to transform Iraq into a global economic center.

Al-Mandalawi talked about the two mega projects currently being carried out in Iraq, explaining that the Al-Faw Grand Port and the Development Road are turning Iraq into an important economic attraction at the global level.

The Iraqi diplomat explained that Iraq became a tourist attraction, especially after its remarkable success in hosting the 25th Gulf Cup, indicating that the Iraqi embassy in Poland hopes to boost tourism between the two countries, particularly since there is a tourism cooperation agreement between Iraq and Poland signed in 1975.

On the other hand, Samson emphasized that Poland is keen to develop bilateral ties with Iraq, recalling the Iraqi Airways office in the Polish capital and its flights from Baghdad to Warsaw and vice versa.

The Polish official also thanked Al-Mandalawi for the briefing he gave on the recent economic developments in Iraq, expressing his admiration for the promising economic plans of the Iraqi government.
