Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, confirmed on Tuesday Iraq’s commitment to the action plan of the International Conference on Financing for Development.

A statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) explained that Al-Sudani participated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit held at the UN headquarters in New York.

Al-Sudani delivered a speech in which he confirmed Iraq’s commitment to the action plan of the International Conference on Financing for Development, which was held in Addis Ababa in 2015.

According to the United Nations, the High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development marked a critical moment to follow up on the implementation of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, which was adopted in 2015 to provide a new global framework for funding sustainable development by aligning all financing flows and policies with economic, social, and environmental priorities.

The Dialogue is a platform for UN Member States and other stakeholders to reinvigorate international commitment to the Addis Ababa Agenda, which supports implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and the SDGs.

The Iraqi Prime Minister elaborated that the Iraqi government is making great efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and indicated that good progress has been made within this framework.

Al-Sudani added that Iraq faces challenges in financing its sustainable development goals; some of these challenges are due to the financial losses the country suffered in its war against ISIS terrorist groups.
