Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, announced on Saturday that the electrical interconnection with Jordan had been fully completed.

Fadel elaborated that the country will start receiving electric power from Jordan within days, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

“The Electricity Ministry is preparing a plan for the next summer,” Fadel said.

“All electrical interconnection contracts with neighboring countries are being implemented as planned,” the Iraqi minister indicated.

The Iraqi Electricity Minister explained that the electrical interconnection with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states is also being done as sketched out.

Experts believe that the inauguration of the electrical interconnection project between Iraq and Jordan, whose foundation stone was laid in October 2022, and with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Egypt will improve electricity provision in Iraq by supplying the national grid with thousands of megawatts of electricity.

According to experts, addressing the electricity crisis would have a positive impact on various productive, service and development sectors in Iraq, enhance political and social stability, and attract investments.
