Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq condemned the Iranian aggression against the city of Erbil, considering that it represents aggressive behavior against the sovereignty of Iraq and the security of the Iraqi people.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the ballistic missile bombing that targeted the city of Erbil in northern Iraq, which resulted in casualties.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Baghdad condemned on Tuesday the Iranian aggression against Erbil, which led to casualties in residential areas, after the IRGC said it attacked an Israeli espionage center in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

The statement mentioned that the Iraqi government will take legal measures against this behavior, which it considers a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and the security of its people, adding that these measures include submitting a complaint to the UN Security Council.

The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, issued directives to form a committee headed by the Iraqi National Security Advisor to investigate the attack, collect information to support the government’s position internationally, and provide accurate evidence and information.

The results of the investigation will be made public to inform Iraqi and international public opinion of the facts and prove the deception made by the parties behind these acts.

The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, condemned the Erbil bombing and considered it a violation of sovereignty that undermines security and stability.

The Iraqi President said that resolving issues should be through dialogue and not military attacks that threaten the stability of Iraq and the entire region, which is witnessing tensions that must be reduced.

The Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) mentioned in a statement that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard fired several ballistic missiles at civilian areas in Erbil, killing four civilians and wounding six others.

The timing of the Iranian strikes coincides with escalating regional tensions due to worries that the conflict in Gaza may spread to other fronts in the Middle East.
