Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yehia Rasool, condemned on Thursday the drone attack that targeted a security building in Baghdad.

Rasool said in a statement that the attack was a flagrant act of aggression and a breach of Iraq’s sovereignty and security, describing the act as a terrorist operation, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

“The Iraqi Armed Forces hold the Global Coalition Forces responsible for this unwarranted attack on an Iraqi security entity that is operating within the powers authorized by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” Rasool stated.

Rasool indicated that the prior agreements between the Iraqi Armed Forces and the Global Coalition Forces are compromised by this action.

“We view this action as a dangerous escalation and assault on Iraq, diverging from the spirit and text of the mandate and the mission for which the Global Coalition was established in Iraq,” the Iraqi official added.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, a building in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, used by the Iraqi paramilitary organization Al-Nujaba, was hit by at least two missiles, according to Reuters.

The spokesperson for Al-Nujaba confirmed that three fighters, including a local commander, were killed in the attack, accusing the United States of being behind the attack.

The United States launched counterattacks in Iraq last month in response to a drone strike by insurgents affiliated with Iran that left one US serviceman critically injured and two others wounded.

Since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas in October, US and international coalition forces in Iraq and Syria have been attacked more than 100 times, most often by a combination of missiles and one-way attack drones.
