 Iraq discusses cooperation with World Bank

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, discussed cooperation between Iraq and the World Bank during a meeting with the President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the two gentlemen’s participation in the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland.

The two sides talked about economic cooperation that supports the government’s efforts and strategic plans to create more investment and development opportunities in Iraq, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The meeting addressed the measures taken by the Iraqi government and the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) to move towards financial and banking reform.

Al-Sudani and Banga also talked about projects financed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), including the development project of Baghdad International Airport.

Considering the regional and global challenges, the Iraqi Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the World Bank’s reports accurately representing the policies of the Iraqi government that support the banking and economic sectors as well as the private sector.

These policies support the goals of financial stability, economic diversification, and growth. Banga commended the government’s measures aiming to modernize and develop the banking sector, expressing his support for such actions, particularly the introduction of the electronic payment system.​
