Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced on Monday that it had completed the drilling of a new oil well in the Nasiriyah oilfield.

The Oil Ministry mentioned in a statement that the technical team of the Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC) completed drilling the Nasiriyah/61 oil well at a depth of 2,096 meters in the Nasiriyah oilfield in the southern Iraqi governorate of Dhi Qar.

The new oil well is the fifteenth to be completed by the IDC as part of a contract concluded with Dhi Qar Oil Company (DQOC) to drill 20 oil wells in cooperation with Weatherford Company for oil services.

The IDC used a 1,000-horsepower drilling rig to complete the drilling of the new oil well. Nasiriyah oilfield is a large oil field located approximately 200 kilometers northwestern of Basra.

The oilfield is estimated to hold recoverable resources of 4.4 billion barrels and was brought on-stream in 2009.
