Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, confirmed on Thursday that Iraq is hosting 260,000 Syrian citizens, calling on the international community to seriously deal with the Al-Hol camp.

During his speech at the 7th Brussels Conference on ‘Supporting the future of Syria and the region,’ held in the Belgian capital, Brussels, Hussein said that all of Iraq’s declared positions confirmed that ending the Syrian crisis will only be achieved through peaceful political solutions in conformity with the requirements of Security Council Resolution 2254.

“Iraq renews its previous call to the international community to seriously deal with the threats posed by the Al-Hol camp in Al-Hasakah governorate in Syria,” Hussein stated.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister explained that the Al-Hol camp includes thousands of people from different nationalities, mostly families of ISIS terrorists.

“Iraq calls on the concerned countries to bear their responsibilities towards their nationals in the Al-Hol camp and take the necessary steps to deport the citizens to their countries of origin and ensure their integration in society,” Hussein said.

“In light of the humanitarian crises the Syrian people suffer from, Iraq received 260.000 Syrian refugees who fled the conflicts in Syria,” the Iraqi Foreign Minister added.

Hussein also highlighted the importance of international support to provide the necessary funding to assist countries hosting Syrian refugees and to share the burden of providing these refugees with their basic needs.
