Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Spanish coach of the Iraqi national team, Jesus Casas, commended the Iraqi fans after the match against the Saudi team in the 25th Gulf Cup.

Iraq now places at the top of Group A with four points after its 2-0 victory over the Saudi team in Basra International Stadium, on Monday, in the second round of the first group of the championship.

Following the match between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, Casas said that the Iraqi fans were very entertaining and encouraged their team in a supportive manner.

“The thing that drives us most to win is the joy of the Iraqi people. I always receive many messages from people in Baghdad, and they are very happy with the victory,” Casas explained.

“I told the team before the match that there are more than 60 thousand of the fans standing in the rain to support them, and I think this motivated the players to win,” Casas added.

The match between Iraq and Saudi Arabia was held in heavy rain.

The Iraqi national team is scheduled to play its match against the Yemeni team on Thursday, in the final round of Group A, while the Saudi national team will face its Omani counterpart.
