Iraq plans to complete Al-Diwaniyah International Commercial Airport

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq intends to finish the first cargo airport’s development, which began at Al-Diwaniyah in 2015 but was never finished.

The new airport would be built next to a train that connects Baghdad, the country’s capital, with Basra, its largest port. The cargo airport will feature a 3,600-meter runway and a land area of around 700 hectares.

A contract for an investment to build a $1.35 billion Al-Diwaniyah International Commercial Airport was signed in January 2015 by the National Investment Commission (NIC), the Diwaniyah Governorate, and Al-Nasiriyah Kuwaiti Company. Due to Al- Nasiriyah Company’s failure to finish the project, the NIC has reclaimed control of it.
