Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq praised the decision of the International Court of Justice to stop the Israeli attack on Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it applauds the decision of the International Court of Justice to impose additional measures on Israel and to immediately stop the attacks on Rafah, based on the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, known as the Genocide Convention, according to the government newspaper Al-Sabah.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry called on the international community to step up efforts and take accountability for defending the rights of the Palestinian people, reiterating the necessity of achieving an immediate ceasefire, safeguarding civilians, and providing aid to the Palestinian people.

Last week, Iraq praised the decision made by Norway, Spain, and Ireland to recognize the independent state of Palestine, describing the decision as an important step towards restoring Palestinian rights.

Iraq also confirmed that stability in the region will only be achieved by establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

This development is expected to strengthen the Palestinian cause internationally but further weaken ties between Europe and Israel.

Since October 7, Israel has been waging a large-scale war against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which has led to the death of more than 35,000 Palestinians, according to health officials in Gaza, after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel that killed more than 1,200 Israelis, according to the Israeli authorities.
