Iraq proposes mediation to end the war in Yemen

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, during a meeting with his Yemeni counterpart on Sunday, expressed Iraq’s readiness to play a mediating role to help find a solution to the war in Yemen, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
In a joint press conference with the Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, Hussein stated that there is a ceasefire or an unannounced truce currently in Yemen, expressing that he hopes the current situation will turn into a dialogue between all Yemeni parties.
“Iraq is ready to help in this regard. We have good relations with all parties, and we can take advantage of these relations to serve stability and security in Yemen. We can move regionally in this regard,” the Iraqi Foreign Minister said.
Mubarak elaborated that there has been an unannounced truce in Yemen since October 2022, and the Yemeni government is committed to this truce.
“We believe it is time to end this war in Yemen,” the Yemeni Foreign Minister added.
The conflict in Yemen, which has been ongoing since 2015 between the internationally recognized government and the Houthis, has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and resulted in one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
The country has been witnessing relative calm since reaching a truce under the auspices of the United Nations in 2022, which expired last October.
