Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The General Secretariat of the Iraqi Council of Ministers confirmed on Wednesday that Iraq and Saudi Arabia agreed to cooperate in the agricultural sector and to confront climate change, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

The spokesperson of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Haider Majeed, told INA that the Iraqi Minister of Agriculture, Abbas Al-Alawi, met the Saudi Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture in the Saudi city of Jeddah, on the sidelines of the Coordination Council between the two countries,

Majeed elaborated that both officials discussed prospects for cooperation to develop the agricultural sector.

“There is a great ambition from both sides to exchange experiences and to work to develop the agricultural sector, particularly the date industry, as well as fisheries,” Majeed said.

The Iraqi official clarified that there is cooperation in line with the vision of the Iraqi government to face the impact of climate change, adding that a memorandum of understanding related to environmental work is expected to be signed between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, in addition to the activation of previous memorandums of understanding in this regard.
