Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, agreed on Thursday, during his meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, to begin joint efforts to conclude a strategic partnership agreement between the two countries.

Al-Sudani and Sanchez held a meeting in Baghdad where they discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The statement explained that the two sides chaired broader discussions held by the delegations of the two countries, where they discussed endeavors to conclude economic partnerships.

The two sides agreed to start exerting joint efforts to conclude a strategic partnership agreement and resume the work of the joint committee in the middle of 2024.

Sanchez expressed Spain’s eagerness to develop relations with Iraq, especially in areas related to transportation, defense, education, and confronting climate change, calling on Iraq to join an international coalition to confront desertification and climate change.

The Spanish Prime Minister also commended Iraq’s role in establishing security in the region, emphasizing that Spanish companies will help the Iraqi government achieve its plans.
