Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraq Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, inaugurated on Monday the electronic passport outlet, followed the steps and mechanisms of the issuance, and supervised the issuance of the first electronic passport in Iraq, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.

Al-Sudani valued the efforts of the staff in the Directorate of Civil Status, Passports and Residence in the Ministry of Interior, to launch the third generation of the new Iraqi electronic passport, which has advanced technical specifications, the statement mentioned.

The new electronic passports are approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the statement elaborated.

Al-Sudani indicated that the new electronic passport will shorten about 85 percent of the paperwork and the administrative procedures, and will be issued to citizens within one day, the statement clarified.

Al-Sudani pointed out that the government is continuing to take effective measures to facilitate the procedures for citizens in various fields, the statement added.

Holders of the new version of the Iraqi passport will be allowed to pass through electronic gates in all Iraqi airports.

People can apply for the new passport through website or mobile application. Additionally, a public service center is available, through the short number 5544, to answer all inquiries.

The new passport can be issued at homes for the elderly, people with special needs and patients. Also, it can be delivered to homes.

The issuance of the new passport takes one day for Iraqis inside Iraq and those living abroad through Iraqi consulates and embassies.
