Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq has submitted a request to host the 2025 Arab League summit in the capital, Baghdad.

The spokesperson of the Iraqi government, Basem Al-Awadi, said in a statement that the Iraqi government is preparing to host the Arab League summit in 2025 by rehabilitating the state’s basic infrastructure in order to be able to hold significant and major regional and international events.

Al-Awadi clarified that Iraq missed several opportunities to play a significant and impactful role internationally because of the isolation it suffered under a dictatorial regime and the war against terrorism.

The Iraqi official explained that there has become an urgent need to renovate the required infrastructure, including presidential complexes and government hospitality buildings, which are in deteriorating condition.

The Iraqi cabinet agreed on February 7 to rehabilitate several presidential complexes listed by the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, and Public Works, according to Al-Awadi.

The 32nd Arab League summit took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on May 19, 2023. Bahrain is scheduled to host the 33rd Arab League summit in 2024.
