Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, affirmed the ministry’s keenness to benefit from all quantities of associated gas in oil fields to supply electric power generation stations and other industries that use gas as fuel.

During his visit to the Basra plant project for the separation and liquefaction of natural gas, Abdul-Ghani explained that this project is one of the important strategic projects in the gas sector, with a capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day, implemented in two phases, the capacity of each is 200 million cubic feet.

The Oil Minister indicated that the project will prevent 30 million tons of carbon dioxide gas released into the air.

Abdul-Ghani elaborated that the visit is part of his follow-up to the stages of the project and the final procedures before the start of the experimental operation of the plant and its inauguration at the end of next May.

The Iraqi official clarified that the ministry is continuing to implement projects to benefit from all available quantities of gas associated with oil operations, and converting it into useful energy, which is part of the government’s program.

The Deputy Director of the Basra Gas Company, Marfaa Kadhim, said that this project treats the associated gas produced from the Rumaila and West Qurna oilfields.
