Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The advisor to the Prime Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs, Khaled Kabyan, confirmed on Wednesday that Iraq will host three international championships in 2024.

Kabyan announced the Prime Minister’s approval to allocate the required funds to hold these championships, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The Iraqi official told INA that Iraq has been granted the right to host three important tournaments in 2024.

The three championships are the Asian Archery Championship, the West Asian Athletics Championship competitions, and the Arab Basketball Championship.

The Iraqi official explained that the dates of the tournaments will be set after coordination with the relevant federations takes place.

Kabyan added that these three tournaments are sponsored by the Iraqi government, represented by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.

Although football is the most popular sport in Iraq, other sports such as tennis, taekwondo, boxing, kickboxing, weightlifting, bodybuilding, basketball, and swimming are also popular sports and hobbies.
