Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to reopen its embassy in Libya and resume diplomatic work there, according to a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf.

The statement mentioned that Iraq decided to reopen its embassy and resume diplomatic work in Libya to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries and to be able to provide services to the honorable Iraqi community.

The Iraqi embassy in Libya was closed due to the deterioration of the security situation in Libya in 2014.

Al-Sahhaf announced last month that Iraq informed Libya of its desire to reopen its embassy in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

Several countries, including Iraq, closed their embassies in Tripoli with the escalation of military tensions between the Libyan parties in 2014.
