Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, confirmed on Thursday that Iraq will start depending on gas produced in the country to operate power plants within two years.

Al-Sudani, in a press interview with CNN, said that Iraq is an influential country in the energy market, indicating that there are many opportunities for US companies to work in various sectors in Iraq.

The Iraqi Prime Minister elaborated that the Iraqi government planned to completely rely on its own gas through major projects with TotalEnergies and other projects carried out by national and international companies.

Al-Sudani explained that the economic plan of the government aims to make Iraq an active country in the global energy market since Iraq has large reserves of natural and associated gas.

The Prime Minister stated that Iraq is capable of increasing oil production, but the matter is subject to a policy with partners in OPEC.

Al-Sudani also illustrated that his government is working to change the way natural wealth is exploited in Iraq and is eager to cooperate with developed countries and with the United States, as a strategic partner, to make this economic transformation successful.
