 Iraqi Defense Minister discusses coordination with NATO

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Defense, Juma Inad, met on Tuesday with the commander of NATO Mission in Iraq, Giovanni Iannucci, to discuss frameworks for cooperation, coordination, and expansion of partnership, according to a press statement issued by the Defense Ministry.

The statement mentioned that the meeting held in the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense in Baghdad was attended by senior officers from the Iraqi army and advisors from the NATO mission in Iraq.

Both sides discussed frameworks of cooperation, coordination, and expansion of partnership at the level of training, as well as the provision of advices to the military institution to develop the capabilities of the Iraqi army, according to the statement.

Last month, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, met with the NATO Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.

The meeting addressed the efforts of the Iraqi forces in combating terrorism, pursuing its remnants, and achieving security and stability in Iraq and the region.

The meeting also addressed ways to enhance security and military cooperation between Iraq and NATO countries which help Iraqi forces in the fields of training and advice.

The two parties expressed their desire to continue and expand cooperation, strengthen security and exchange information.
