Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, revealed during his meeting with members of the parliamentary committee on electricity and energy on Sunday that two delegations will visit Qatar and Turkmenistan to discuss possible deals to import gas, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The Iraqi parliament’s press office mentioned in a statement that the meeting was held to discuss the ministry’s plans to provide electricity during the summer.

The head of the committee stressed the need to continue efforts to provide energy to citizens, particularly with the rise in temperatures during the summer months.

The Minister of Electricity explained that the reason for the decrease in electricity supply is the suspension of gas imports from Iran, which led to the loss of 6,000 megawatts power plants were able to generate if the required fuel was available.

Fadel elaborated that a meeting was held with the Ministry of Oil to reach effective solutions to the electricity crisis and equip power plants with the required fuel.

The Iraqi official added that two delegations would visit Turkmenistan and Qatar to discuss possible deals to import gas from the two countries to have enough fuel to operate power plants.
