 Iraqi Finance Minister reviews financial reforms with World Bank

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Finance, Taif Sami, confirmed on Monday that the government had developed plans to accelerate financial and banking reforms.

Sami’s remarks took place during a meeting with the World Bank Country Director for the Middle East Department, Jean-Christophe Carret, the World Bank Country Manager and Special Representative in Iraq, Richard Abdulnour, and experts in the financial sector, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The meeting addressed development initiatives that the World Bank supports in order to boost the business and financial sectors and enhance the investment climate.

The two sides emphasized the need to maintain bilateral coordination to promote sustainable development, in addition to the World Bank’s support for the Iraqi government’s economic reform program.

The Iraqi Finance Minister indicated the ministry’s plans to expedite financial and banking reforms in accordance with the Iraqi government’s goal to establish economic balance and adjust the country’s financial policy.

The World Bank representatives observed that the Iraqi government and the organization have been working together seriously and productively to provide the required professional assistance for development initiatives and financial and business sector reforms.
