Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, confirmed on Monday, during his meeting with the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, that Iraq is against wars and the policy of imposing an economic blockade because it targets people, according to the Foreign Ministry statement cited by the state news agency (INA).

The statement mentioned that Hussein received Kutrashev in Baghdad where both discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister indicated that Iraq suffered the scourge of war, and stressed that Baghdad opposes wars and the policy of imposing an economic blockade because it targets people.

Hussein stated that Iraq, through the Arab Contact Group under the umbrella of the Arab League, called for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, and for the start of negotiations to reach peace.

The Russian Ambassador congratulated Hussein for electing a new president for the country and for assigning a new prime minister to form a new government.
