 Iraqi FM discusses military cooperation with USA

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, discussed military cooperation with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Theresa Stephen, during their meeting in Washington, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.

The meeting addressed issues of common interest, the efforts of the U.S. forces in assisting Iraq to eliminate the terrorist group of ISIS, the military and security cooperation with the Iraqi forces, and Iraq’s efforts to achieve stability and security in the region, the statement elaborated.

Hussein stressed the need to continue joint coordination to eliminate the remnants of terrorist organizations and combat extremist ideologies, and the keenness of the Iraqi government to provide the best means of training and qualification for the Iraqi security forces, the statement mentioned.

Hussein also talked about Iraq’s commitment to balanced relations with the countries of the region, and not to let others interfere in Iraq’s affairs, the statement explained.

Hussein indicated that Iraq rejects wars, especially as the Iraqi people suffered for decades from wars, and affirmed Iraq’s endeavor, within the initiative of the Arab League, to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, which affected the political, economic, social and humanitarian aspects in the whole world.

The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs emphasized the United States’ support for Iraq in achieving stability, building its armed forces, and supporting Iraq’s efforts to achieve stability in the region.
