 Iraqi FM discusses peaceful uses of atomic energy in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, discussed on Monday prospects for cooperation with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, to accomplish Iraq’s development objectives in areas pertaining to the peaceful uses of atomic energy.

The two sides met at the IAEA’s headquarters in the Austrian capital, Vienna, according to a statement released by the Iraqi Foreign ministry.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister emphasized the significance of forging positive relationships with the IAEA at this point, especially since Iraq aims to create a peaceful and healthy society and to play a crucial role based on forging positive ties with the countries of the region.

Hussein invited Grossi to visit Iraq in the near future to enhance cooperation between Iraq and the IAEA.

Grossi expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the Iraqi Foreign Minister, accepted his invitation to visit Baghdad, and emphasized his desire to collaborate with Iraq in the use of nuclear technology and reap its benefits indifferent areas, particularly health-related ones. He also expressed interest in working on cancer treatment as part of the IAEA’s “Rays of Hope” initiative.

Grossi emphasized that the organization anticipates a new Iraq and a bright future generation that aims to advance the country’s technological and scientific capacities and gain from the advancement of its infrastructure and human resources.
