 Iraqi FM reviews Higher Military Committee work with US Defense Department

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, discussed recently the work of the Higher Military Committee (HMC) with the US Under Secretary of Defense, Sasha Baker, during their meeting at the headquarters of the US Department of Defense (the Pentagon).

Hussein emphasized during the meeting that the government is eager to develop bilateral relations in economic, commercial, and security areas and that it aspires to a bilateral partnership with the United States and its allies, according to a statement released by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.

The meeting addressed the presence of the international coalition in Iraq and the US strategy regarding the international coalition troops’ planned exit from the country.

The two sides reviewed the security situation in the region, particularly the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, the need to put an end to the ongoing violence, and the dangers it poses to civilians.

Hussein also addressed the difficult humanitarian conditions in Gaza and their impact on security and political stability in the region.

Within the context of bilateral ties, Baker confirmed that the American and Iraqi visions are compatible and commended the Iraqi government’s efforts to establish security and stability.

The US Under Secretary of Defense emphasized that the US is committed to helping the Iraqi security forces combat the terrorist organization ISIS and expressed anticipation for the outcomes of the HMC talks.
