Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, expected that the escalation in the Gaza Strip between the Palestinian factions and Israel would continue for at least 10 days.

During a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, Hussein indicated that he hopes that the conflict will not spread to neighboring countries, adding that international intervention is necessary to stop hostilities in the Gaza Strip, Sputnik reported.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Izz Ad-Din Al-Qassam Brigades, Mohammed Deif, announced last Saturday the launch of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood to put an end to Israeli violations.

Deif mentioned in a statement that the operation targeted sites, airports, and military fortifications by launching more than 5,000 missiles.

Hamas fighters captured many Israelis, including soldiers and officers, and took them as hostages to the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced on Sunday the launch of the war on the Gaza Strip in response to the Hamas movement’s operation.

The Israeli army announced the launch of air raids on the Gaza Strip, where Israeli aircraft attacked Hamas sites.
