Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Secretary-General of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, Hamid Naim Al-Ghazi, stressed the depth of bilateral relations between Iraq and Italy in various fields, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

A statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers mentioned that Al-Ghazi received the Italian ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Greganti, where they discussed the support provided by Italy to Iraq regarding the development of tourism in the city of Ur, as well as cooperation in the energy, economy, and trade sectors.

Al-Ghazi praised the role of Italian companies operating in Iraq, and the positive diplomatic efforts supporting Iraq’s sovereignty.

The two sides agreed to continue the effective partnership by holding expanded technical meetings in the coming days.

The Minister of Defense, Thabet Al-Abbasi, met with his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto at the beginning of May to discuss joint military cooperation between both countries.

The two sides also reviewed ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

Al-Abbasi commended Italy’s efforts within the international coalition in the war against ISIS and thanked the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for its efforts in training Iraqi military forces.
