Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohamed Al-Halbousi, arrived in Algeria on Thursday accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, to participate in the meetings of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Parliament’s press office.

The statement explained that the delegation accompanying Al-Halbousi includes the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Shakhwan Abdullah, and a number of Iraqi MPs.

Upon his arrival to Algeria, Al-Halbousi was received by the Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

Al-Halbousi and Boughali held a meeting in which they discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries, the importance of activating friendship committees between the two parliaments, and pushing forward the cooperation at all levels, the statement revealed.

Al-Halbousi stressed the need to unify visions and stances on issues of common interest, particularly the Palestinian issue, in different international parliaments, the statement mentioned.

Boughali congratulated Al-Halbousi on his appointment as President of the Arab Parliamentary Union, confirming his support for common stances, especially the Palestinian cause, the statement added.

Boughali also expressed his aspiration for more cooperation between the two parliaments, noting the importance of the status of Iraq in the Arab and Islamic world.
