Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohammed Al-Halboosi, discussed on Saturday ways to promote coordination between Iraq and Turkey with the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Al-Halbousi met with Erdogan in the Turkish capital, Ankara, where they talked about the latest developments in the region and other topics of common interest, according to a statement issued by the office of the Speaker of the Parliament.

The meeting follows a Turkish military escalation in the Kurdistan region of Iraq after the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) claimed responsibility for an attack targeting the headquarters of the Turkish Ministry of Interior in Ankara.

Al-Halbousi’s meeting with Erdogan also comes after the Iraqi Minister of Defense, Thabet Al-Abbasi, met on Thursday with the Turkish Minister of National Defense, Yasar Guler, where they discussed cooperation in the military and defense industries.

A statement issued by the Iraqi Defense Ministry explained that the two sides stressed the need to continue cooperation in the fight against terrorism and in maintaining border security.
