 Iraqi PM arrives in Saudi Arabia to participate in Arab-Chinese summit

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, left Baghdad on Thursday heading to Saudi Arabia to participate in the Arab-Chinese summit held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, according to a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.

On the sidelines of his participation in the Arab-Chinese Summit, Al-Sudani met with the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Riyadh where the two leaders discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries, and prospects for joint cooperation at various levels, the statement mentioned.

The meeting also addressed several regional and international issues of common interest, the statement elaborated.

Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq’s keenness to maintain the relations with Arab countries, and to open horizons of economic cooperation to achieve the interests of the people of Iraq and Egypt and the people of the region in general, the statement explained.

El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s aspiration to enhance the bilateral relations to include more cooperation and integration in the economic and development fields, the statement clarified.

El-Sisi also indicated Iraq’s leading role in the region, and its efforts to strengthen security and stability, in a way that contributes to the prosperity of the people of the region, the statement added.

Al-Sudani stated on Wednesday that Iraq’s participation in the summit is of a particular importance as it represents an opportunity to share the new economic vision of the government, according to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

The Iraqi Prime Minister also confirmed that Iraq is looking forward to quoting China’s successful experiences in various fields, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper mentioned.

Additionally, Al-Sudani elaborated that the Arab-Chinese summit is an explicit call for economic and investment integration between Iraq and the neighboring countries, adding that Iraq’s strategic location gives it the right to play a major role.

The Chinese President, Xi Jinping, is visiting Saudi Arabia from December 7 to December 9, after he received an official invitation from King Salman bin Abdulaziz, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Jinping will attend two major summits in Riyadh where leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Arab countries will attend, SPA mentioned.

The two summits will address ways to enhance joint relations in all fields, as well as prospects for economic and development cooperation, SPA added.
