Iraqi PM attends Russian Energy Week, seeks to enhance ties in energy sector

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – In Moscow, Russia, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani recently attended the 6th Russian Energy Week International Forum. The forum aimed to improve collaboration in the energy industry, notably in increasing Iraqi gas development and enticing firms to work on technology and development of clean energy.

In his speech at the forum, Al-Sudani highlighted the necessity of energy sector cooperation in addressing Iraq’s issues in the electricity, oil, petrochemical, and gas industries. He also stressed Iraq’s determination to diversify its energy sources and reduce its reliance on oil.

“Iraq seeks to diversify its energy sources, and not depend its economy on oil only,” said Al-Sudani. “Our government is continuing to optimize gas investment, in light of the global growth in demand for gas, which far exceeds the supply.”

Al-Sudani also emphasized Iraq’s development in renewable energy, stating that the country has added solar producing capacity totaling 3,000 megawatts.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also attended the forum during Al-Sudani’s official invitation to visit Russia.
